Why Narayana Aditi Is a Good Fit for Families in Kolkata

Narayana Aditi, Aditi+ or Aditi Prime: Which Plan Is Right for Your Kolkata Family?
A heart surgery or a transplant can cost far more than most families have saved. Government schemes like Swasthya Sathi and Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY cover up to ₹5 lakh per family per year, which is a strong safety net but can run out quickly during serious treatment.
Narayana Aditi was designed for that gap. It offers a sum assured of up to ₹1 crore for surgeries, backed by the Narayana Health network that Kolkata families already know. But Aditi now comes in three variants, and each suits a different kind of family. Here is how to choose.
At a glance
Aditi Prime suits families who want the freedom to choose their hospital.
Aditi+ suits families who want a private room and higher limits within the Narayana network.
Aditi Plan 1 and Plan 2 suit families who want maximum surgical protection at the lowest cost.
Aditi Plan 1 and Plan 2: big protection, simple setup
These are the entry-level plans. They give you the ₹1 crore surgical limit and ₹5 lakh for non-surgical (medical management) treatment. Admission is in a general ward by default, a daily deductible of ₹2,000 applies to admissible claims, and cashless treatment is mostly limited to Narayana hospitals.
Best for: families already treated at Narayana hospitals who mainly want protection against one major surgery.
Aditi+: more comfort, more flexibility
Aditi+ upgrades the experience. There is no daily deductible, and you get private room eligibility. You can also choose your non-surgical limit: ₹5, 10, 15 or 20 lakh. Its network covers 21+ Narayana hospitals along with preferred partners.
Best for: families who trust Narayana's doctors and want a comfortable, higher-limit plan without paying for a very large network.
Aditi Prime: your hospital, your choice
Aditi Prime removes the biggest limitation of the Aditi family: the network. It offers cashless access across more than 2,400 hospitals, with private room coverage and zero waiting periods, subject to health check-up results.
Best for: families whose specialists practise outside the Narayana group, or who live far from a Narayana hospital.
Narayana hospitals near Kolkata
If you choose Aditi Plan 1/2 or Aditi+, these are the hospitals you will rely on most:
Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Mukundapur
Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Howrah
Narayana Multispeciality Hospital, Barasat
If your family's doctors are based here, the Narayana-focused plans work well. If they are elsewhere, Aditi Prime is the safer choice.
Waiting periods: the check-up matters
Standard waiting periods are 3 years for pre-existing diseases and 2 years for specific ailments. With Aditi, these can be reduced to zero after a medical check-up, depending on the results. Ask for the outcome in writing so you know exactly what applies to you.
What else is covered
Aditi covers pre- and post-hospitalization expenses, ambulance services, day care procedures, modern treatments, organ donor cover, and an annual health check-up. Consumables are covered, excluding robotic surgeries. Always confirm the current inclusions in the policy wording.
Which plan should you choose?
Choose Aditi Prime if hospital choice matters most to you.
Choose Aditi+ if you want a private room and higher medical limits at Narayana hospitals.
Choose Aditi Plan 1 or 2 if you want the lowest premium and are comfortable with a general ward and a daily deductible.
Keep in mind that Narayana Health Insurance is a newer insurer, launched in 2024, so read the policy wording carefully and ask questions before you buy.
Before you buy
Compare premiums for all three variants for your age and family size.
Confirm which variants are available in your district.
Check that your preferred hospital is on the network list.
Get the waiting-period outcome in writing.
Verify the insurer's registration at irdai.gov.in.
IRDAI rules protect you whichever plan you choose. The pre-existing disease waiting period is capped at 36 months, and after five years of continuous cover, a claim cannot be rejected for non-disclosure except in cases of proven fraud.
Frequently asked questions
Do I still need Aditi if I have Swasthya Sathi or Ayushman Bharat?
For many families, yes. Aditi sits above the ₹5 lakh government cover. It adds to your protection rather than replacing it.
What is the difference between Aditi+ and Aditi Prime?
Both include private room coverage. Aditi+ works across 21+ Narayana hospitals and preferred partners, while Aditi Prime offers cashless treatment at 2,400+ hospitals.
Does Aditi cover pre-existing diseases?
Coverage and waiting periods depend on your health check-up and underwriting. Confirm the terms in the policy wording before you buy.
Can I use any hospital?
That depends on your variant. Plan 1/2 and Aditi+ are centred on Narayana hospitals, while Aditi Prime offers a much wider network.
